This is juvenile detention security guard work for the Department of Human Services’ Juvenile Justice Services Center on the first shift. Employees in this class are responsible for patrolling and observing the activities in and around the facility, responding to security situations, preventing unauthorized access to the facility and transporting staff. Contact with the general public and notifying the proper authorities for escalated security threats or safety issues is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Juvenile Detention Facility Guard Supervisor or an administrative superior.
Minimum Training, Education & Experience
The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Candidates must meet requirements within 30 days after the last date for filing applications.
1. Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Department of Human Services with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
One year of experience at the full performance level as a security officer performing protective work enforcing security and conduct, rules and regulations for the Juvenile Justice Services Center.
Physical & Medical Requirements
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment as a Juvenile Detention Security Guard.
Ability to pass and maintain the following clearances at the time of appointment and during tenure as a Juvenile Detention Security Guard:
• Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
• Federal Criminal History Background Check – (FBI) fingerprint based record check
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience determined acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.
