Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer to join our team in Oakland or San Francisco, CA.


Key Responsibilities

  • Works directly with senior-level personnel in interpreting the actual needs of individual clients
  • Determines required scope and level of effort of project work, including the degree of completeness and precision to which project elements should be addressed
  • Coordinates site activities with contractors, subcontractors, agency personnel and client representatives
  • Exercises independent professional judgment not subject to close review
  • Maintains a high level of communications skill, with emphasis on the preparation of clear and concise written reports
  • Demonstrates a high level of competence in directing and managing large single-disciplined projects and / or small to moderate sized multi-disciplined projects
  • Provides technical direction to and mentors subordinate staff
  • Responsible for ensuring the Firm’s administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his / her specific discipline are followed
  • Represents Amec Foster Wheeler and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements in the field
  • Capable of providing an effective Quality Assurance / Quality Control role in his / her technical discipline
  • Effective at representing the firm in verbal presentations to clients
  • Meets with client representatives at the direction of more senior personnel, and conducts his / herself in a manner compatible with the firm’s professional standards and financial goals
  • May travel frequently to project sites, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • 0 - 3 years of related work experience required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Chemical or Environmental or similar field) required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors required
  • Ability to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or Project Manager regarding work assignments required
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course within, if required
  • Ability to pursue certification/registration in Civil Engineering in California, required

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpful
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required
