R&D Engineer – Oil & Gas

In this key role, the R&D Engineer - Oil & Gas will be part of a diverse team that develops new technologies to advance polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) cutter performance. PDC cutters are used in drill bits in the Oil & Gas industry, and this product line is a high-growth area for Sandvik Hyperion. The successful candidate will play an important role in a fast paced product development environment with an opportunity to interact with an international customer base as well as universities and research labs.
R&D Engineer responsibilities include:
- Meet with customers to understand their requirements and translate customer requirements to lab performance benchmarks
- Develop process and product technology to improve PDC properties to meet lab performance benchmarks
- Work in a cross-functional manner, both within Sandvik Hyperion and with customers, to take a concept to commercial product launch
- Develop Sandvik Hyperion’s external R&D network by attending conferences and establishing contact with investigators at universities and research labs
You possess a Master’s degree in engineering, chemical, or physical sciences, and 0-3 years of experience in R&D in a product and/or process development role. A PhD with strong patent/publication history would be a plus. Working knowledge of analytical techniques like SEM/EDAX, TEM, XRD, XRF, Raman, FTIR, Auger, XPS etc, would also be a plus, as would a background in ceramic sintering technology. You possess a proven understanding of engineering fundamentals with solid conceptual and analytical skills.
