Position Description:

Provide administrative support for the 24/7 operations of the NDSU Communications Call Center as part of the University Police & Safety Office. Receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency phone calls and alarm systems; operate a multi-line digital switchboard to include transferring of calls and providing directory assistance and services; utilizing the computer aided dispatch to mobile data computer system in the New World software program, as well as the interoperable emergency services radio system, the operator is responsible for the appropriate dispatching of police officers and/or public safety officers in various situations including emergencies; responsible for monitoring 24/7 safety and security surveillance equipment; transmit emergency mass notification messages and/or timely warnings as authorized; work within the NIMS structure for incident management; use teletype system to run records checks and maintain teletype log for police staff; must be able to multi-task phone, radio and alarm system traffic and prioritize according to level of response needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Related A.S. degree or equivalent related experience
  • One or more years of directly related work experience in a law enforcement or emergency services setting
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner
  • Must be able to multi-task phone, radio and alarm system traffic and prioritize according to level of response needed
  • Working knowledge of NIMS and its application to incident management
  • Working knowledge of police codes and procedures to include operations of police radios, teletypes and computer systems
  • Ability to utilize multiple computer based alarm and dispatch systems
  • Ability to successfully pass a post-offer/pre-hire background check
  • Must complete a criminal history check as part of the hiring process
  • Must complete a confidentiality agreement upon hire and annually thereafter
  • Must be able to work various shifts to provide 24/7 coverage
  • Must have left previous employment in a satisfactory manner


Preferred Qualifications:

  • New World software use experience
  • NIMS certificates of achievement
