Job Summary:

 Perform tasks involving physical labor at a construction site primarily laying pipes. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, operate machinery, communicate with customers and clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials. May assist other craft workers.

 

Tasks:

Grading trenches, laying pipes, seal joints, and other assigned tasks.

Operates pickups and flatbed trucks (not requiring a commercial driver’s license), and miscellaneous hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; conducts routine equipment maintenance and daily equipment inspections according to standards.

Responds to emergencies as directed and performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies.

Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.

Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities.

Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.

Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.

Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.

Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.

Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.

Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools.

Provide assistance to others.

Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials, such as asphalt.

Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.

All other duties as required by business needs.

 

Qualifications

Experience:

3 to 4 years' experience working on an asphalt construction crew laying pipes.

Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.

Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
